How to describe your mental health to someone else

It can be hard describing depression or anxiety to someone else, these are words which describe a mode and a clinical diagnosis.


They are natural and normal and help protect and arm us in tackling life. To feel anxious before a speech allows you to pull out that extra 20%, gives you an edge in a sales pitch. But it also prevents you from doing anything when its bad.


Feeling depressed can be your minds way of slowing you down, It can be a way to protect you from things that are harmful. It's natural.


What can be hard is when these naturally occurring modes step into a chronic state.


It can be hard to a) recognise and b) describe to someone what it is.
